Summary Statement:  The Food Service Utility Worker participates in food preparation in any area, serving of food, setting up counters, cashiering, operating dish machine and clean up of kitchen facilities and serving areas.  Must follow proper food safety handling procedures and have basic knowledge of operating a register.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Shall be able to work in all areas as assigned by the Food Service Manager.
  • Shall accept alternating assignments in all preparation areas, on the serving line, in the dish room, if directed by the Food Service Manager, on the cash register and during cleaning periods.
  • Shall follow safe food handling practices and maintain standards of health, sanitation, and safety as required by the State Board of Health.
  • Shall keep all kitchen areas and equipment clean and sanitary in an efficient manner.
  • Shall be responsible for proper use, operation and sanitation of dishwashing machine or component sink area.
  • Shall sweep the floor in the kitchen preparation area.
  • Shall check out purchased or commodity foods from storerooms, refrigerators, or freezers on a daily basis.
  • Shall observe areas where help is needed and do whatever is necessary to expedite work.
  • Shall display an attitude of cooperation and accommodation to all coworkers, students, faculty and administration.
  • Shall perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as needed or as the Food Service Manager may assign.

Other Duties:

  • Operates Food Service equipment and utensils properly and carefully.
  • Uses proper food safety handling procedures.
  • Wears appropriate attire for the Food Service kitchen.
  • Avoids unsafe practices that can result in injury.
  • Follows lifting procedures.
  • Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the operation when Manager is not available.
  • Assumes responsibility for all equipment under his/her area.
  • Assumes responsibility for daily receipts and sales when Manager is not available.
  • Assumes responsibility for checking deliveries when Manager is not available.
  • Guards against waste of fuel, water, and electricity.
  • Uses older stock first.
  • Maintains and cleans equipment regularly.
  • Is careful in the use of supplies and equipment to avoid unnecessary loss or damage.

Required Education: High School Diploma or GED

 

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Must be able to read and write.
  • Follow instructions, observe, and take initiative where help is needed.
  • Have knowledge of or be willing to learn requirements of USDA meal pattern as specified by the USDA child nutrition program.
  • Maintain personal cleanliness and knowledge of sanitation principles as related to food preparation.
  • Withstand having hands in water and tolerate extremes in temperature.
  • Learn the operation of all kitchen equipment.
  • Be able to lift up fifty pounds and stand on cement floor up to six hours.
  • Possess the physical ability to perform the above responsibilities.

$17.16 per hour, with an increase to $18.16 per hour after the 520 hours of probation period is completed. Positions could be anywhere from 3 - 5 hours per day.

 

External Candidates will be required to provide mandatory clearances. This includes the Act 34 (State Criminal Clearance), Act 151 (Child Abuse) and Act 114 (FBI Clearance). All Clearances must be within 1 year.
